At sgfleet, we consider corporate social responsibility very important. The company supports several charities, including Birmingham Children’s hospital, Marie Curie Hospice, Birmingham Dogs Home, and Mancheck.org.

Mancheck is an organisation that offers early screening for prostate cancer. One of its trustees is sgfleet commercial director, Chris Salmon.

As well as supporting the charity, Chris helps organise annual charity pitch days for League Edstreme, a Portsmouth-based football league that raises money for charities they pick through public voting.

How does Team Edstreme work?

Team Edstreme is a 7-player league that plays in order to honour the memory of the founder’s brother, who sadly died while playing football. They hold regular charity pitch days in order to raise money for worthy causes.

The organisation asks its followers for suggestions, and the charity with the most votes is selected. In order to play, people need to pay for the position they want to play in, which is how the Team Edstreme raises money.

In 2018, Team Edstreme’s charity pitch day at Leicester’s King Power Stadium raised money for Mancheck for the first time. The response was amazing, with the match raising almost £7,000. Some of these funds were used to support a prostate cancer-testing event at Fratton Park, where 210 men were tested.

Out of the 210, 13 tested with a red result and 8 with an amber result. This meant that 10% of those tested were at risk of prostate cancer but could now seek appropriate treatment.

Team Edstreme Charity Pitch Day 2019

Following the success of previous efforts, Team Edstreme held two charity matches for Mancheck and the Alzheimer’s Society at the Amex Stadium in Brighton on 26th May 2019.

The first match was between Daron Ford and JB Architecture, ending 6-2. The second was between League Edstreme and sgfleet. Chris, manager for our team, played alongside Paul Dawson, Andy Willock, and Bertie Morse.

The sgfleet team won comprehensively in the second match, with a final score of 10-1! However, the real victory was that a massive £6,200 was raised, split between the Alzheimer’s Society and Mancheck.

We at sgfleet would like to thank everyone who helped make the day so successful, and Team Edstreme for the wonderful work they do.
