SG Fleet has a unique position in the marketplace, built on the experience of its team, world-class products, and excellence in customer service. Our culture of continuous innovation underpins an industry-leading proprietary technology platform that allows our customers to benefit from highly advanced mobility management capabilities.

This is our story.

1980s SG Fleet’s story begins in Australia with the formation in 1986 of Leaseway Transportation as a specialist fleet management company. In 1988, a joint venture is established with CBFC (the finance company arm of the Commonwealth Bank of Australia), combining Leaseway’s fleet management expertise and CBFC’s financing capability, to provide both fleet management and leasing to its customers.

1990s In the late Nineties, Commonwealth Bank acquires Leaseway Transportation, rebranding it in 2000 as Commonwealth Fleet Lease. This establishes our relationship with Commonwealth Bank, which continues to this day.

2004 Super Group, a South African conglomerate listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, acquires Commonwealth Fleet Lease from Commonwealth Bank, immediately rebranding the business as FleetAustralia.

2005 FleetAustralia acquires SMB Salary Packaging, a leading specialist provider of vehicle salary packaging services in the Australian marketplace.

2007 After opening offices across Australia, FleetAustralia expands its fleet operations by establishing offices in the United Kingdom and New Zealand.

Following the acquisition of the National Australia Bank’s commercial fleet portfolio, Super Group consolidates its fleet management and salary packaging interests, comprising FleetAustralia, SMB Salary Packaging and Commercial Fleet.

2008 FleetAustralia, SMB Salary Packaging and Commercial Fleet are united under the SG Fleet brand.

2011 A consortium led by CHAMP Ventures, including SG Fleet’s senior management team, alongside Super Group, makes a significant investment in SG Fleet to support the company’s  growth plans and prepare it for life as a listed  entity.

2014 In March, SG Fleet Group Limited lists on the Australian Securities Exchange with a market capitalisation of $449 million.  Super Group maintains its commitment to the long-term growth of the business, retaining a controlling shareholding of 52%.

2015 In November, SG Fleet Group strengthens its novated leasing presence in Australia by acquiring nlc. This expands its customer offering to include consumer vehicle finance and vehicle sourcing services.

2016 SG Fleet Group expands its presence in the United Kingdom by acquiring Fleet Hire in August and Motiva in November. Fleet Hire and Motiva help widen SG Fleet’s offering in this market to include contract hire, salary sacrifice, short-term rental, and fleet management services.
